Volunteers in the [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia Foundation elections/2022|2022 Board of Trustees election]] are invited to [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2022/Community_Voting/Election_Compass/Statements|vote for statements to use in the Election Compass]]. You can vote for the statements you would like to see included in the Election Compass on Meta-wiki.

An Election Compass is a tool to help voters select the candidates that best align with their beliefs and views. The community members will propose statements for the candidates to answer using a Lickert scale (agree/neutral/disagree). The candidates’ answers to the statements will be loaded into the Election Compass tool. Voters will use the tool by entering in their answer to the statements (agree/disagree/neutral). The results will show the candidates that best align with the voter’s beliefs and views.

Here is the timeline for the Election Compass:

*&lt;s&gt;July 8 - 20: Volunteers propose statements for the Election Compass&lt;/s&gt;
*&lt;s&gt;July 21 - 22: Elections Committee reviews statements for clarity and removes off-topic statements&lt;/s&gt;
*July 23 - August 1: Volunteers vote on the statements
*August 2 - 4: Elections Committee selects the top 15 statements
*August 5 - 12: candidates align themselves with the statements
*August 15: The Election Compass opens for voters to use to help guide their voting decision

During the 2022 Wikimedia Summit, the [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Movement Charter/Drafting Committee|Movement Charter Drafting Committee]] (MCDC) presented the first outline of the Movement Charter, giving a glimpse on the direction of its future work, and the Charter itself. The MCDC then integrated the initial feedback collected during the Summit. Before proceeding with writing the Charter for the whole Movement, the MCDC wants to interact with community members and gather feedback on the drafts of the three sections: Preamble, Values &amp; Principles, and Roles &amp; Responsibilities (intentions statement). The Movement Charter drafts will be available on the Meta page [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Movement Charter/Content|here]] on November 14, 2022. I want to bring your attention to the next stage of the Universal Code of Conduct process, which is forming a building committee for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C). I invite community members with experience and deep interest in community health and governance to nominate themselves to be part of the U4C building committee, which needs people who are:

* Community members in good standing
* Knowledgeable about movement community processes, such as, but not limited to, policy drafting, participatory decision making, and application of existing rules and policies on Wikimedia projects
* Aware and appreciative of the diversity of the movement, such as, but not limited to, languages spoken, identity, geography, and project type
* Committed to participate for the entire U4C Building Committee period from mid-May - December 2023
* Comfortable with engaging in difficult, but productive conversations
* Confidently able to communicate in English

The Building Committee shall consist of volunteer community members, affiliate board or staff, and Wikimedia Foundation staff.

We have recently become unable to access the WorldCat API which provided the ability to generate citations using ISBN numbers. The Wikimedia Foundation's [[mw:Editing_team|Editing team]] is investigating several options to restore the functionality, but will need to disable ISBN citation generation for now.

This affects citations made with the [[mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:VisualEditor/User_guide/Citations-Full#Automatic|VisualEditor Automatic tab]], and the use of the citoid API in gadgets and user scripts, such as the autofill button on [[:en:Wikipedia:RefToolbar|refToolbar]]. Please note that all the other automatic ways of generating citations, including via URL or DOI, are still available.

You can keep updated on the situation [[phab:T336298|via Phabricator]], or by reading the next issues of [[m:Tech News]]. The [[foundation:Special:MyLanguage/Policy:Universal Code of Conduct/Enforcement guidelines|Enforcement Guidelines]] require a [[foundation:Special:MyLanguage/Policy:Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Enforcement_guidelines#4.5_U4C_Building_Committee|Building Committee]] form to draft a charter that outlines procedures and details for a global committee to be called the [[foundation:Special:MyLanguage/Policy:Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Enforcement_guidelines#4._UCoC_Coordinating_Committee_(U4C)|Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C)]]. Over the past few months, the U4C Building Committee worked together as a group to discuss and draft the U4C charter. The U4C Building Committee welcomes feedback about the draft charter now through 22 September 2023. After that date, the U4C Building Committee will revise the charter as needed and a community vote will open shortly afterward.

As we gear up for our upcoming Wikisource Community meeting, we are excited to share some additional information with you.

The meetings will now be held on the last Saturday of each month. We understand the importance of accommodating different time zones, so to better cater to our global community, we've decided to alternate meeting times. The meeting will take place at 3 pm UTC this month, and next month it will be scheduled for 7 am UTC on the last Saturday. This rotation will continue, allowing for a balanced representation of different time zones.

As always, the meeting agenda will be divided into two halves. The first half of the meeting will focus on non-technical updates, including discussions about events, conferences, proofread-a-thons, and collaborations. The second half will delve into technical updates and conversations, addressing major challenges faced by Wikisource communities, similar to our previous Community meetings.

Thank you everyone for following the progress of the Universal Code of Conduct. I am writing to you today to announce the outcome of the [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Coordinating_Committee/Charter/Voter_information|ratification vote]] on the [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Universal Code of Conduct/Coordinating Committee/Charter|Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee Charter]]. 1746 contributors voted in this ratification vote with 1249 voters supporting the Charter and 420 voters not. The ratification vote process allowed for voters to provide comments about the Charter.

First, the [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Universal Code of Conduct/Coordinating Committee/Charter/Vote results|report of the comments from the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) Charter ratification]] is now available. Secondly, the call for candidates for the U4C is open now through April 1, 2024.

The [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Universal Code of Conduct/Coordinating Committee|Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee]] (U4C) is a global group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. Community members are invited to submit their applications for the U4C. This year, the term of 4 (four) Community- and Affiliate-selected Trustees on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees will come to an end [1]. The Board invites the whole movement to participate in this year’s selection process and vote to fill those seats.

The [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia Foundation elections committee|Elections Committee]] will oversee this process with support from Foundation staff [2]. The Board Governance Committee created a Board Selection Working Group from Trustees who cannot be candidates in the 2024 community- and affiliate-selected trustee selection process composed of Dariusz Jemielniak, Nataliia Tymkiv, Esra'a Al Shafei, Kathy Collins, and Shani Evenstein Sigalov [3]. The group is tasked with providing Board oversight for the 2024 trustee selection process, and for keeping the Board informed. Here are the key planned dates:

*  May 2024: Call for candidates and call for questions
*  June 2024: Affiliates vote to shortlist 12 candidates (no shortlisting if 15 or less candidates apply) [5]

*  October–November 2024: Background check of selected candidates

पत्र नंबर ४ : ९ एप्रिल १८४८&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}लोकांत वाईट गोष्टीचा परिचार त्वरित पडतो, व चांगले गोष्टींचे ग्रहण होण्यास बहुत उशीर लागतो, हा एक साधारण नियम आहे. व दुसरा एक नियम असा आहे की, जी एखादी चाल काही कारणावरून एक वेळ पडते, तीच पुढे काही काळाने अंधपरंपरा चालू लागते. तसेच हे होळीचे माहात्म्य आम्हास दिसते. हल्ली हे पाच दिवस होळीचे आहेत, हे प्रत्येक ठिकाणी लोक अधर्माने क्रमीत आहेत. व त्यात मूर्ख आणि उनाड लोकच आहेत असे नाही. बहुत संभावित, शहाणे व थोर लोक अंशतः त्यात मिसळून आपला अपमान करिताहेत. तेव्हा त्यांस संभावित हे नाव शोभते काय ? नाही; सगळे सारखेच योग्यतेचे असे म्हटले पाहिजे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}परंतु हा दोष त्याजकडेस आहे असेच केवळ नाही. हा संगतिदोष लहानपणापासून आसमंतात भागी ही दुष्कृत्ये पाहिल्याने प्राप्त होतो. आणि एकदा निर्लज्जपणाच्या भावना मनात ठसल्या म्हणजे त्या जात नाहीत. उलट्या इतक्या सुदृढ होतात की, आम्ही आता लिहितो आहो, हे किती थोड्यांस आवडेल आणि किती बहुतांस आवडणार नाही, हे आमच्याने सांगवत नाही; परंतु जर त्यांनी विचार केला तर त्यांस आम्ही म्हणतो, हे खरे वाटेल यात संशय नाही. वाचणाराने असे म्हणू नये की, माझा बाप, माझा आजा, माझे शेजारी, हे सर्व असे कर्म प्राचीन काळापासून करीत आले व मीही लहानपणापासून त्यातच वाढलो; तेव्हा त्याचे विरुद्ध जे हे भाषण ते उपयोगी काय ? तर आमची त्यांस अशी प्रार्थना आहे की, तुम्हास ईश्वराने विचारशक्ती दिली आहे. तेणेकरून सारासार पहा. यद्यपि शास्त्राचा आधार थोडासा असेल तरी शास्त्रात आणखी बहुत सत्कर्मे लिहिली आहेत ती सर्व तुम्ही करता काय ? आणि जर करीत नाही, तर मग भ्रष्टपणास मात्र शास्त्राचा आधार तुम्ही कशाकशाकरिता धरता ? सार कोणते व असार कोणते, हे पहाणे तुम्हाकडे आहे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}ईश्वराने तुम्हास जिव्हा दिली आहे. तिचे योगाने कुत्सित, बीभत्स व निंदायुक्त भाषणे करिता आणि लज्जास्पद मूर्खपणाचे स्वर काढिता हा थोरपणा काय ? आम्ही तर याला मनुष्यपणाही म्हणणार नाही. मग थोरपणा म्हणू कोठून ? रानात जनावरे फिरतात व त्यासारखे हे लोक फिरतात. त्यांस लज्जा कशी&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

'कुरीयर' नामक इंग्रजी पत्रात असे लिहिले आहे की, सरकारने हा सण बंद करण्याचा बेत करावा. तो असा की, दरबारात या सणाबद्दल सुट्या आहेत, त्या बंद कराव्या व पुण्यास रात्रीच्या तोफा बंद करता त्या करू नयेत. व माजिस्त्रेट साहेब यांणी कोणी दांडगाई किंवा वाईट भाषण अगर दंगा करील त्यांस मोठे शासन करावे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}हे सर्व बेत सरकारने केले तर चांगले आहेत. लोकांस वाईट मार्गातून काढल्यासारखे होईल. परंतु सरकार प्रस्तुत असे करीलसे दिसत नाही. कारण सरकार स्वतंत्र नाही. त्यांस विलायतेहून अधिकाऱ्यांची पत्रे वारंवार येतात की, हिंदू लोकांचे रिवाजास व चालीस व धर्मास अगदी अटकाव करू नये.&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

पत्र नंबर ६ : २३ एप्रिल १८४८&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}हिंदू धर्मात बहुत ग्रंथ आहेत. मला वाटते की, सरासरी शंभर एक असावे. असेच दुसरे धर्मातही आहेत. परंतु या पंथांपैकी एक दुर्घट पंथ तंत्राचा आहे. म्हणजे रुद्र, यामल व योनीतील तंत्र वगैरे ग्रंथ आहेत. त्यात शक्ती-उपासना करण्याचा मार्ग लिहिला आहे. तो बंगाल देशात व गौड व उडीसा (ओरिसा) प्रांतात पूर्वीपासून चालतो. तेथील लोक शक्ती-उपासना तंत्राधाराने करतात. म्हणून या देशात ते लोक मंत्री व सामर्थ्यवान आहेत. अशा गप्पा फार आहेत.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}त्याचे खरेपण किंवा खोटेपणा काय असेल ते असो. त्याचा विचार मी सांप्रत करीत नाही. परंतु मला बहुत खेद होतो की, तो पंथ अलीकडे दक्षिणेत पुणे इत्यादी ठिकाणी बहुत चालू लागला आहे. त्याचे कारण पाहिले&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

      <text bytes="5631" xml:space="preserve">&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;pagequality level=&quot;3&quot; user=&quot;कल्पनाशक्ती&quot; /&gt;१३६ : शतपत्रे&lt;/noinclude&gt;असता लक्ष्मी प्राप्त व्हावी, पुत्रकामना इत्यादिक वासना तृप्त व्हाव्या, म्हणून उपासना करतात, असे शाक्त सांगतात; परंतु मला वाटते की, ते काही नाही; त्यांची मद्य मांस खाण्याची व्यसनेच प्रमुख आहेत. ती पुरती होण्याकरिता निमित्त करून किती एक निर्लज्जपणाने आपले घरी दारूचे कारखाने करून मद्य तयार करतात. व किती एक विकत घेतात व ते जरी गुप्तपणाने असे करतात तरी त्याचे श्रीमुखाची दुर्गंधी जेथे बसतील तेथे प्रगट होऊन हे शाक्त आहेत, असे सर्वांस समजते व किती एक मस्त होऊन घरी व रस्त्यात सापडतात. या गोष्टी प्रसिद्ध आहेत, परंतु त्यांच्या प्रतिबंधाचा उपाय कोणी लोक समजून करीत नाहीत. किंबहुना त्याजवर झाकण घालून जो तो म्हणतो की, हे अपेश डोकीवर कोणी घ्यावे ! हे कलियुग आहे. मी तुम्हास थोडासा या प्रकरणाचा इतिहास कळवितो. तो मी श्रमेकरून समजून घेतला आहे. यास्तव हा दुष्ट पंथ सुटण्याकरिता प्रगट व्हावा.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}या पंथांतील लोक आहेत त्यांस वाममार्गी किंवा वामाचारी असे म्हणतात आणि शाक्त हेही नाव त्याचे प्रसिद्ध आहे. प्रथमतः ज्यांस मद्यमांस खावे अशी बुद्धी होते, तो जो दुसरे वाममार्गी आहेत याचे भजनास लागतो. नंतर ते एक दिवस बहुधा अमावास्या किंवा अंधारी रात्र अशी योजतात आणि त्या दिवशी त्या उमेदवारास आपले धर्मात घेण्याचा संस्कार करीतात, तो असा की, त्या दिवशी मध्यरात्रीस आठ असामी वाममार्गी आणि आठ स्त्रिया एक एक वेगळा जातीची असावी, म्हणजे विधवा, ब्राह्मणी, परटीण, न्हावीण, कळावंतीण, गौळीण, कोष्टीण, सोनारीण, सुवाशीण एकूण आठ, त्या गुरूच्या घरी मिळोन येतात; आणि तेथे स्थंडिल घालून आठ कलश मद्याचे व मांस असे मांडतात. अग्नि पेटवितात आणि त्याजवळ काली म्हणजे देवीची मूर्ति मांडितात. नंतर प्रत्येक पुरुष स्त्रीचे शेजारी बसतो आणि पूजा करीतात. नंतर प्रतिज्ञा करवीतात की, 'मी आजपासून जातिनिषेध मानणार नाही व मद्य-मांस भक्षीन व स्त्री स्वकीय किंवा परकीय यांचे ठायी निषेध किंवा व्यभिचार मानणार नाही, मला सर्व सारखे आहे. येणेकरून मला भगवती मेल्यावर मोक्षास नेवो. आणि या जन्मी सुखसंपदा देवो.' अशी प्रार्थना व प्रतिज्ञा करतात.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}नंतर पूजा संपूर्ण झाली म्हणजे तंत्र शास्त्रांतील काही उपदेश करीतात. आणि नित्य पूजेचा मार्ग सांगतात. यानंतर तो वामाचारी दीक्षित झाला. मग त्याने पुनरपि अंधेरी रात्रीस पूजेचा बेत केला म्हणजे तशा स्त्रिया जमवून ते सोबती जमवून बसावे; आणि स्त्रियांस ते भैरवी म्हणतात व आपल्यास भैरव म्हणतात व दारूस सिद्ध म्हणतात; अशी विलक्षण नावे घेऊन कोणी नग्न&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

      <text bytes="5438" xml:space="preserve">&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;pagequality level=&quot;3&quot; user=&quot;कल्पनाशक्ती&quot; /&gt;{{right|शतपत्रे : १३७}}&lt;/noinclude&gt;होऊन नग्न स्त्रियांची पूजा करीतात आणि तिचे ठायी देवीचे स्तापन करतात. किती एक व्यभिचार करीतात आणि एक महार किंवा मांग यांचे हातचे जेवतात. शिवरात्रीस व एकादशीस देखील अशी कर्मे करीतात आणि त्यांचे आणखी पुष्कळ विधी आहेत. कोणी आपले कपाळी कुंकू लावून तांत्रिक टिळकाची खूण बाळगतात. कोणाची खूण तोंडाची घाण असत्ये; मग ते आपल्या मंडळीत आपल्यास मोठे सामर्थ्यवान म्हणवितात. कोणी म्हणतात आम्ही ज्यास शाप देऊ त्यांस मारू; कोणी म्हणतात की आम्हास देवी दिसते; कोणी म्हणतात की, आम्ही जे चिंतू ते कार्य करू. अशी अनेक प्रकारची कर्मे ते आपल्या अंगी भासवितात, परंतु वागवीत नाहीत; तेणेकरून लोकांत निंदेस मात्र पात्र होतात.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}असे भ्रष्टाचार हल्ली ब्राह्मण लोकांत चालू लागले आहेत. त्यांनी वैदिक मार्ग, अग्निहोत्र, ज्ञानप्राप्ती, वेदपारायण, पुराण-मार्ग, शालिग्राम-पूजा इत्यादिक धरून स्वस्थपणाने भगवंताचे भजन करावयाचे, ते सोडून या नरकवासरूप पंथात पडून राहिले आहेत. मला तर वाटते की, याचे साधन नरक मात्र आहे. असे जे दुष्ट लोक नीतिभ्रष्ट करतात, त्यांस ईश्वर शासन केल्याशिवाय राहणार नाही. पेशव्यांचे राज्यात ब्राह्मण धर्माचा काहीसा बंद होता, कारण की ते नियंते होते; परंतु हल्ली तर ब्राह्मण अतिशूद्रापेक्षाही वाईट कर्मे करतात. त्यांस कोणी शासन करणार नाहीसा झाला आहे. जे चार गरीब आहेत ते भितात की कोणी अब्रूची अर्जी कोडतात करील. मग हुकूमनामा होईल. हे कष्ट कोणी भोगावे ? परंतु, मला वाटते की, अद्यापि वाममार्गी ब्राह्मण फार नाहीत. दक्षिणमार्गी जर सगळे जमले, तर त्यांस ताळ्यावर आणावयास उशीर नाही. किती एक लोकांनी जेवावयास जाणे सोडले व किती एक घरात बसतात, कोणाच्या घरी जात नाहीत, असे त्रासले आहेत. परंतु कोणामध्ये असा धीर होत नाही की, सर्वांस बोलावून याचा निर्बंध करून बंदोबस्त करावा आणि मूळचे पवित्र स्थितीवर ब्राह्मण धर्म आणावा, म्हणजे शुद्ध ज्ञान-मार्ग, शास्त्रविचार, परमेश्वराचे आराधन करणे इत्यादीक मार्ग स्थापावे आणि मंत्रतंत्र व जारणमारण इत्यादिक गोष्टी किमयासारख्या अशक्य, परंतु अडाणी लोकांस भुलविण्याकरिता ब्राह्मण लोक प्रतिष्ठा दाखवून दुष्ट कर्मे करीतात. ही एकदम बंद होतील तर चांगले आहे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}पूर्वी इराण देशात असा एक मजदाद (मेहदी ?) नामक खोटा पैगंबर होऊन व्यभिचार नाही, असे मत चालू करीत होता. परंतु नशरिवात राजाने त्यांस फाशी दिले, तेव्हा ते मत आटपले. तसे या दुष्ट वाममार्गी लोकांस&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

पत्र नंबर २६ : १३ ऑगस्ट १८४८&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}मनुष्यमात्राने आपले परलोकांचा विचार करावा, एक हे सर्व गोष्टींहून उत्तम आहे; असे असता किती एक सांसारिक जन लौकिक विचार मात्र करतात. एक क्षणभरदेखील ईश्वराचे स्मरण करीत नाहीत. याहून मोठे आश्चर्य काय आहे ? मनुष्यास ईश्वराने बुद्धी दिली आहे, तिचा उपयोग इतकाच की, इतर सर्व जनावरांपेक्षा हे जनावर श्रेष्ठत्व पावून आपले कर्त्याचे उपकार जाणून त्याची कीर्ती आणि दया वर्णन करील; परंतु हा सन्मार्ग सोडून किती एक गैर रस्त्याने जात आहेत. आणि क्षणभंगुर देहाचे पोषणाकडे सर्व लक्ष देऊन आपले जे महत्कल्याण, ते करून घेत नाहीत.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}पहा, कित्येक मेहनतीचे कामात पडले आहेत. किती एक चाबूकस्वार, किती एक कारकून, कित्येक मजूर, किती एक शास्त्री व कित्येक वैदिक आहेत. कित्येक सूर्यादयादारभ्य नाचतात व संत म्हणवितात; परंतु हे सर्व देवास जाणत नाहीत. केवळ पोटाकरिता उद्योग संपादून असतात. याचा दाखला असा आहे की, गोसावीबोवास जर बिदागी कमी पोचली, तर त्यांस राग येतो. पुराणिकास तांदूळ मिळाले नाहीत, तर त्यांस संताप येतो. भटास दक्षणा मिळाली नाही, तर तो रागावतो. असेच बहुतेक लोक आहेत. तेव्हा कोणी धर्मसंबंधी किंवा प्रपंचासंबंधी द्रव्याचे आशेवाचून काम करीत नाहीत, हे स्पष्ट आहे. यास्तव यापैकी कोणी साधूचे अभिधान पावण्यास योग्य नाहीत.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}मला असे वाटते की, संसार आणि परमार्थ ही दोन कामे पृथक आहेत. त्याची मिसळ करू नये. परंतु किती एक लोक फक्त संसाराकरिता काही कामे करतात आणि ती देवाकरिता केली असे म्हणतात. मला एक साधू असा ठाऊक आहे की, त्याची पूजा व भजन किंचित होते; तत्रापि त्याजकडे लोक फार येऊ लागले, तेव्हा त्याची पूजा वाढली. म्हणजे, दांभिकपणाने तो चार घटिका अधिक बसू लागला व तेच लोक कमी होताच पुन्हा मूळचे प्रमाणे झाला. हा केवढा नीचपणा आहे !&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}देवाने सर्वदा माझे भजन करा, म्हणून मनुष्यावर ओझे घातले नाही. तो इतकेच भजन मागतो की, जे आपले आणि आपले कुटुंबाचे व इतर जनांचे काम आहे, ते सर्व चांगले रीतीने करून नंतर जी वेळ सापडेल, ती&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

      <text bytes="5468" xml:space="preserve">&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;pagequality level=&quot;3&quot; user=&quot;कल्पनाशक्ती&quot; /&gt;१४० : शतपत्रे&lt;/noinclude&gt;क्षणभर असो अगर घटकाभर असो, स्नान संध्येत किंवा प्रार्थनेत आणि नामस्मरणात घालवा. म्हणजे त्यातच अनंत वर्षे तपश्चर्या केल्याचे पुण्य आहे. संपूर्ण जग ईश्वराने निर्माण केले आहे व त्याची व्यवस्था होण्याकरिता सूर्य-चंद्र, रात्र-दिवस, प्रत्येक जिवाचा भक्ष, रोगास औषध व मनुष्यास विचार आणि थोरपणा इतकी दिली आहेत. त्याचे कारण असे आहे की, ज्या ज्या ठिकाणी जे जे व्हावयाचे; ते यथास्थित होऊन मनुष्याने सर्वदा ईश्वराचे उपकार, शहाणपण, नेम व रचना यांची आश्चर्यकारक स्तुती करून रमत असावे. सूर्य उगवला असता निद्रा करावी किंवा रोग झाला असता औषध घेऊ नये, अगर मनुष्य झाला असता विचार टाकून देऊन जनावरांसारखे फिरावे, असे विचारास योग्य दिसत नाही. यास्तव उत्तम हेच की मनुष्याने आपले कर्म करावे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}श्रीकृष्णाने गीतेच्या ठाई हाच अभिप्राय अर्जुनास सांगितला आहे. अर्जुन विषाद पावून वैराग्य घेत होता. तेव्हा कृष्णाने त्याची समजूत केली की, 'अरे षंढा, तू भितऱ्यासारखा वैराग्य काय घेतोस ? जे आपले कर्तव्य आहे, ते कधीही टाकू नको. त्याचे आचरण कर. आणि सुखदुःख मात्र मानू नको. वैराग्य हे मूर्खपण आहे. आशा व दुःख जे लाभालाभापासून होते ते मात्र सोडावे. परंतु संसारी जे आपले कर्म लोकांस प्रगट होऊन चालत आले आहे, ते टाकू नये.' या उपदेशावरून जन्माचे सार्थक कसे होईल, याचे उत्तर सहज निघत आहे. आपण काय करितो, वस्त्रप्रावर्ण नेसतो, खातो, पितो व कुटुंबाचे पोषण करितो. हे सर्व व्यर्थ आहे, येणेकरून ईश्वरप्रीति होत नाही, असे जे म्हणतात, त्याचे मत ईश्वरी वचनास विरुद्ध व विचारासही विपरीत आहे, कारण पृथ्वीवर अनेक मनुष्ये निर्माण झाली आहेत, अनेक देश आहेत, त्यात आपण एक मनुष्य आहो. तेव्हा या जगत्समुदायात आपल्यास अनेक प्रकारचे संबंध प्राप्त झाले आहेत. त्यांचा त्याग करणे ठीक नाही व हा केवळ भित्रेपणाच होय, ज्यास संसार चालवावयास धैर्य नाही, तो पुढे काय करणार ? संसार म्हणजे यत्किंचित गोष्ट आहे व या आयुष्यात थोड्याचा विचार ज्यास होत नाही, त्यांस अगम्य ईश्वराचा विचार कसा समजेल ? ज्या देशात ईश्वराने आपणास घातले आहे, त्या देशात आपली योग्यता व बुद्धी येणेकरून आपण काय करावे, याचा विचार करावा आणि योग्य असेल, ते करावे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}वैराग्यापेक्षा संसार सुयुक्त रीतीने चालविला असता बरा. कारण जर ईश्वराचे मनात आपल्यास रानटी व अविचारी करण्याचे असते, तर त्याने वाघाच्या किंवा दुसऱ्या काही रानवट जनावराच्या जन्मास घालून डोंगरात राहणारे केले असते.&lt;br&gt;&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

त्यांची चाल व वर्तणूक बहुत करून हिंदूंप्रमाणेच आहे. म्हणजे त्यामध्ये ब्राह्मण, शूद्र अशा जाती आहेत व परस्पर लग्ने होत नाहीत. धर्म मात्र हिंदूंचा नाही. पुढे पोतुगीज लोक इकडे येऊन त्यांनी गोव्यात ठाणे बसविले. त्यानंतर त्यांनी गरीबगुरीब लोकांस जबरीने व द्रव्याने आपले धर्मात आणिले, व ते बहुतकरून युरोपियन लोकांप्रमाणे वागतात. असे किरिस्तावांचे दोन इतिहास आहेत.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(२) अरबस्तानात महमदी धर्म चालू होऊन मुसलमान झाले, तेव्हा किती एक बादशहाही मुसलमान झाले आणि आपले रयतेस मुसलमान होण्याकरिता इजा देऊ लागले. त्याकाळी इराण देशात जरदस्ताचा अग्निपूजेचा धर्म चालत होता. तेथील बादशहा मुसलमान होऊन रयतेस उपद्रव करू लागला. तेव्हा तेथील जे धर्मतत्पर लोक होते, ते जहाजात बसून हिंदुस्थानात सुरतेस आले; तेथील राजा हा समुदाय पाहून भयभीत झाला व पुढे त्याने त्याजपासून तरवार धरणार नाही, म्हणून करार लिहून घेऊन आपले प्रांतात राहू दिले. त्यांस सरासरी आठ-नऊशे वर्षे झाली. ते पारशी लोक हल्ली आपली पहिली भाषा सोडून गुजराथी भाषा बोलून इकडील लोकांप्रमाणे राहतात. व त्यांनी किती एक इकडील चालीही धरल्या आहेत. त्यांचे धर्मपुस्तक जेंद अवेस्ता हे मात्र मूळचे भाषेत आहे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(३) जेव्हा मुसलमानी धर्म चालू झाला, तेव्हा त्या धर्मातील पुष्कळ लोक इकडे येऊन धर्म शिकवू लागले, त्यात एक मौलवी अरबस्तानातून गुजराथेत आला व आपली जाती व धर्म छपवून एका स्वामीजवळ शिष्यात राहिला. व तेथे त्याने हिंदू धर्माचा अभ्यास केला. आणि मग त्या स्वामीस बोध करण्यास आरंभ केला. व आपला धर्म प्रतिपादन केला. तेव्हा स्वामीने तो धर्म खरा समजून आपले शिष्यासहित स्वीकारला ते लोक बोहारी झाले. या गोष्टीस पाचशे वर्षे झाली. गुजराथी भाषेत बोहारी या शब्दाचा अर्थ व्यापारी असा आहे. हे मूळचे गुजराथेतील हिंदूच होते. पुढे बाटून मुसलमान झाले.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(४) हिंदुस्थानात पूर्वी एकही मुसलमान नव्हता. परंतु मुसलमानांनी स्वारी करून हा मुलूख काबीज केल्यावर ते लोक हा देश चांगला पाहून इकडून गेले नाहीत. येथेच आपल्या सैन्यासहित राहिले. ते लोक हल्ली सर्व हिंदुस्थानात इकडील लोकांत मिसळले आहेत. रोहिले व पठाण हैद्राबादेस राहिले व लखनौ आणि दिल्ली या ठिकाणी मोगल राहिले.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(५) कोळी, गोंडवनातील गोंड व भिल्ल हे लोक बाहेरील देशातून इकडे आले नाहीत. हे या देशाचे मूळचे मिराशी आहेत, असे दिसते; कारण संस्कृत भाषेचा यांचे भाषेत लेशही नाही. व हिंदू धर्माची गोष्ट त्यांस काही&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

      <text bytes="5490" xml:space="preserve">&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;pagequality level=&quot;3&quot; user=&quot;कल्पनाशक्ती&quot; /&gt;{{right|शतपत्रे : १४३}}&lt;/noinclude&gt;त्यांची चाल व वर्तणूक बहुत करून हिंदूंप्रमाणेच आहे. म्हणजे त्यामध्ये ब्राह्मण, शूद्र अशा जाती आहेत व परस्पर लग्ने होत नाहीत. धर्म मात्र हिंदूंचा नाही. पुढे पोतुगीज लोक इकडे येऊन त्यांनी गोव्यात ठाणे बसविले. त्यानंतर त्यांनी गरीबगुरीब लोकांस जबरीने व द्रव्याने आपले धर्मात आणिले, व ते बहुतकरून युरोपियन लोकांप्रमाणे वागतात. असे किरिस्तावांचे दोन इतिहास आहेत.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(२) अरबस्तानात महमदी धर्म चालू होऊन मुसलमान झाले, तेव्हा किती एक बादशहाही मुसलमान झाले आणि आपले रयतेस मुसलमान होण्याकरिता इजा देऊ लागले. त्याकाळी इराण देशात जरदस्ताचा अग्निपूजेचा धर्म चालत होता. तेथील बादशहा मुसलमान होऊन रयतेस उपद्रव करू लागला. तेव्हा तेथील जे धर्मतत्पर लोक होते, ते जहाजात बसून हिंदुस्थानात सुरतेस आले; तेथील राजा हा समुदाय पाहून भयभीत झाला व पुढे त्याने त्याजपासून तरवार धरणार नाही, म्हणून करार लिहून घेऊन आपले प्रांतात राहू दिले. त्यांस सरासरी आठ-नऊशे वर्षे झाली. ते पारशी लोक हल्ली आपली पहिली भाषा सोडून गुजराथी भाषा बोलून इकडील लोकांप्रमाणे राहतात. व त्यांनी किती एक इकडील चालीही धरल्या आहेत. त्यांचे धर्मपुस्तक जेंद अवेस्ता हे मात्र मूळचे भाषेत आहे.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(३) जेव्हा मुसलमानी धर्म चालू झाला, तेव्हा त्या धर्मातील पुष्कळ लोक इकडे येऊन धर्म शिकवू लागले, त्यात एक मौलवी अरबस्तानातून गुजराथेत आला व आपली जाती व धर्म छपवून एका स्वामीजवळ शिष्यात राहिला. व तेथे त्याने हिंदू धर्माचा अभ्यास केला. आणि मग त्या स्वामीस बोध करण्यास आरंभ केला. व आपला धर्म प्रतिपादन केला. तेव्हा स्वामीने तो धर्म खरा समजून आपले शिष्यासहित स्वीकारला ते लोक बोहारी झाले. या गोष्टीस पाचशे वर्षे झाली. गुजराथी भाषेत बोहारी या शब्दाचा अर्थ व्यापारी असा आहे. हे मूळचे गुजराथेतील हिंदूच होते. पुढे बाटून मुसलमान झाले.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(४) हिंदुस्थानात पूर्वी एकही मुसलमान नव्हता. परंतु मुसलमानांनी स्वारी करून हा मुलूख काबीज केल्यावर ते लोक हा देश चांगला पाहून इकडून गेले नाहीत. येथेच आपल्या सैन्यासहित राहिले. ते लोक हल्ली सर्व हिंदुस्थानात इकडील लोकांत मिसळले आहेत. रोहिले व पठाण हैद्राबादेस राहिले व लखनौ आणि दिल्ली या ठिकाणी मोगल राहिले.&lt;br&gt;{{gap}}(५) कोळी, गोंडवनातील गोंड व भिल्ल हे लोक बाहेरील देशातून इकडे आले नाहीत. हे या देशाचे मूळचे मिराशी आहेत, असे दिसते; कारण संस्कृत भाषेचा यांचे भाषेत लेशही नाही. व हिंदू धर्माची गोष्ट त्यांस काही&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>
