== 音韻 ==

漢語一字一音，一音可分為聲、韻、調。[[漢字]]多不表音，故初用「讀若某」。後[[佛教]]東傳，得[[梵文]]而知[[反切]]，乃用以標音。近世，創[[國語注音|注音符號]]及[[漢語拼音]]，以明音韻。

== 語法 ==
漢語為[[孤立語]]、或曰分析語，此謂詞彙無[[格 (語法)|格]]、[[態 (語法)|態]]、[[性 (語法)|性]]、[[數 (語法)|數]]之變。唯示以[[語序]]之先後及虛字之用而達意。

語序為：[[主謂賓]]，[[修飾語|偏次]]先於[[中心語|正次]]。於數數，必附[[量詞]]於數後。各[[方言]][[語法]]略異，故白話文之行可亂文字。乃以國語語法為白話文語法。

古者語法，同乎[[文言]]。

== 文字 ==

三代以降，[[漢字]]初成。[[秦]]以書同文，必用[[小篆]]，其後偶有數變，用之不更至民季，共和國立，納昔[[錢玄同]]所倡簡字法，加以矯正，遂成今制，曰[[簡化字]]，今[[中國大陸]]、[[新加坡]]、[[馬來西亞]]行之。[[香港]]、[[澳門]]、[[臺灣]]仍因舊制，書傳統漢字。

近代西學東傳，亦有以[[拉丁字母]]記音者，法式歧異。至共和國立，創[[漢語拼音|拼音]]，授之於小學。初，國人頗思廢漢字，後以同音多，拉丁文字無象形之用，遂止。

== 沿革 ==
三代之時，天下有國千萬，言語不通。[[周]]既王，始有[[雅言]]。諸子著作，皆以雅言。及周道微，天下紛亂，言語異聲，文字異形。尤是楚語至不同也。[[秦始皇帝]]混一車書，獨用秦[[小篆|篆]]，各地方言日合。然至於[[許慎]]之世，[[說文解字]]之所錄，亦有同義而音異之字，多有「某地曰某為某」之訓。蓋天下文字雖一，而言語未統也。此[[上古音]]也。古語於語法異於今音，可見諸[[尚書]]。

魏晉之世，北族南面，雖[[魏孝文帝]]力主洛音，而古音已變，[[詩]]始不得押韻。[[中原]]漢胡雜合，而成唐音，為[[中古音|中古之音]]。於南國，衣冠之南渡，亦有吳音混於正音者。此世[[樂府]]有吳曲、西州曲之分，蓋亦異音之故也。

[[趙宋|宋]]季，[[中原]]復為胡君，語音大變。[[四聲]]缺入，派為三聲。唯江南淪陷不足百年，語音未大變也。[[明]]初都[[應天]]，[[永樂]]間北遷，百官隨同，江左之音復入燕地。以後四百年皆都[[北京]]，遂以為[[國語]]矣。

及[[中華人民共和國]]立，以國語為[[普通話]]，舉世皆以其漢語之正音。實其正音以國語稍改而成，[[中華民國|國民政府]]遷臺，用其國語至今未廢。然分立五十年，習用亦異也。大異者，舉凡[[兒化韻]]之用，[[外來詞]]之源，王畿方言之不同，亦成其異也。

於地方，雖有國語，實方言殊音甚多，惟[[學校]]、[[典禮]]多用正音。

今世，以漢語為官話者，有中國、[[新加坡]]、[[聯合國]]。隨中國國力日蓄，萬國習之者眾，以利來華遊學仕商。

== 方言 ==
蓋漢語歧甚，遠者異域不相通，近者十里音不同。然文惟一，為世所稀見。

以[[語言學]]分，言不通即非一語。且語法各異，故有漢語為一語族之論。漢語諸言，概分如下：

* [[官話]]，聞之中原、巴蜀、江北，滿蒙疆人亦多用之。今中國大陸之[[普通話]]、臺灣之[[中華民國國語|國語]]、南洋之[[華語]]皆宗[[北京官話]][[京師片]]。
* [[吳語]]，聞之吳越之地，昔宗[[蘇州話]]，今宗[[上海話]]。
* [[閩語]]，聞之閩臺之地，瓊文之民亦操之，其中分[[閩北語|閩北]]、[[閩東語|閩東]]、[[閩南語|閩南]]、[[閩中語|閩中]]、[[莆仙話|莆仙]]，五語各不相通。
* [[粵語]]，聞之嶺南，至於海外。[[廣州話]]為宗。
* [[客語]]，聞之南境，為[[客家人]]之言，[[梅州話]]為宗。
* [[湘語]]，聞之楚南。分新老二派。[[長沙話|長沙]]、[[雙峰話]]為宗。
* [[贛語]]，聞之[[江西]]，[[南昌話]]為宗。
* [[徽語]]，聞之皖南，[[徽州話]]為宗。今或以之為吳語之別種。

官話復分數種，以下次第：
*[[東北官話]]，聞之東北，宗[[瀋陽話]]。
*[[北京官話]]，聞之北京，東北，新疆之一部，宗[[北京話]]。
*[[江淮官話]]，聞之蘇中蘇北之大部，蘇南之一部及皖中，宗[[揚州話]]，以其地雜吳語，兩者相生，或謂淮語。明代以之為國語。
*[[西南官話]]，聞之川，桂，滇，貴，宗[[成都話]]。
*[[中原官話]]，聞之中原，關中，魯南。各地或有別種。宗[[洛陽話]]、[[西安話]]。
*[[冀魯官話]]，聞之冀，魯。宗[[濟南話]]。
*[[蘭銀官話]]，聞之隴上，寧夏。宗[[蘭州話]]。
*[[膠遼官話]]，聞之齊東，遼南，東北之一部。學界多宗[[煙臺話]]。

淮南節度使高駢死，[[楊行密]]入[[揚州]]。僖宗以王兼淮南節度使。王乃表行密為副使，以行軍司馬李璠為留後。璠之揚州，行密不納。文德元年正月，王如淮南，至宋州而還。是時，秦宗權陷襄州，以趙德諲為節度使。德諲叛于宗權以來附。僖宗因以王為蔡州四面行營都統，以德諲為副。三月庚子，僖宗崩。天雄軍亂，囚其節度使樂彥貞。其子相州刺史從訓攻魏，來乞兵。遣朱珍助從訓攻魏。而魏軍殺彥貞，從訓戰死，魏人立羅弘信，珍乃還。張全義取河陽，逐李罕之。罕之奔于河東。李克用遣兵圍河陽，全義來求救，遣丁會、牛存節救之，擊敗河東兵于沇河。

自劉季述等已誅，宰相[[崔胤]]外與梁交，欲假梁兵盡誅宦者。而鳳翔李茂貞、邠寧王行瑜等皆遣子弟以精兵宿衞昭宗，宦官韓全誨等亦因恃以為助。昭宗與胤計事，宦者屬耳，頗聞之。乃選美女，內之宮中，陰令伺察其實。久之，果得胤奏謀所以誅宦者之說，全誨等大懼，日夜相與涕泣，思圖胤以求全。胤知謀泄，事急，即矯為制，召梁兵入誅宦者。十月，王以宣武、宣義、天平、護國兵七萬，至于河中，取同州，遂攻華州，韓建出降。全誨等聞梁王兵且至，即以岐、邠宿衞兵劫昭宗奔鳳翔。王乃上書言胤所以召之之意。昭宗怒，罷胤相，責授工部尚書，詔梁兵還鎮。王引兵去，攻邠州，屯于三原。邠州節度使楊崇本以邠、寧、慶、衍四州降，崔胤奔于華州。

二年春，王退軍于河中。晉攻晉、絳。遣朱友寧擊敗晉軍于蒲縣，取汾、慈、隰，遂圍太原，不克而還，汾、慈、隰復入于晉。四月，友寧引兵西，至興平，及李茂貞戰于武功，大敗之。王兵犯鳳翔，茂貞數出戰，輒敗，遂圍之。十一月，鄜坊李周彝以兵救鳳翔，王遣孔勍襲鄜州，虜周彝之族，徙于河中，周彝乃降。是時，岐兵屢敗，而圍久，城中食盡，自昭宗至後宮，皆凍餒。三年正月，茂貞殺韓全誨等二十人，囊其首，示梁軍，約出昭宗以為解，甲天子出幸梁軍&lt;ref&gt;[[舊五代史]]巻二梁太祖紀載：「甲子，昭宗發離鳳翔，幸左劍寨，權駐驆帝營。」[[新唐書]]巻一０昭宗紀及[[資治通鑑]]巻二六三(下簡稱通鑑)亦云唐昭宗於「甲子」日赴朱全忠營。此處「甲」下當脫「子」字。&lt;/ref&gt;，遣使者馳召崔胤，胤託疾不至。王使人戲胤曰：「吾未識天子，懼其非是，子來為我辨之。」昭宗還至興平，胤率百官奉迎。王自為昭宗執轡，且泣且行，行十餘里，止之。人見者，咸以為忠。己巳，昭宗至自鳳翔，素服哭于太廟而後入，殺宦者七百餘人。二月甲戌，昭宗賜王「回天再造竭忠守正功臣」，以輝王祚為諸道兵馬元帥，王為副元帥。王乃留子友倫為護駕指揮使，以為昭宗衞，引兵東歸。昭宗餞于延喜樓，賜楊柳枝五曲。

初，梁兵已西，青州王師範遣其將[[劉鄩]]襲據梁兗州。王已還梁，四月，如鄆州，遣朱友寧攻青州。師範敗之于石樓，友寧死。九月，楊師厚敗青人于臨朐，取其棣州，師範以青州降，而鄩亦降。友倫擊鞠，墮馬死。王怒，以為崔胤殺之，遣朱友謙殺胤于京師。&lt;ref&gt;遣朱友謙殺胤於京師，曾三異謂「殺崔胤者朱友謀，非友謙」。按[[新五代史]]巻一三梁朗王存傳載：「乃遣友諒至京師，以兵圍開化坊殺胤。」友諒為梁太祖兄朱全昱之子，新五代史及舊五代史俱有傳。疑作「友謙」、「友謀」並誤。&lt;/ref&gt;其與友倫擊鞠者，皆殺之。

自昭宗奔華州，王請遷都洛陽，雖不許，而王命河南[[張全義]]修洛陽宮以待。天祐元年正月，王如河中，遣牙將寇彥卿如京師，請遷都洛陽，并徙長安居人以東。昭宗行至陝州，王朝于行在，先如東都。是時，六軍諸衞兵已散亡，其從以東者，小黃門十數人，打毬供奉、內園小兒等二百餘人。行至穀水，王教醫官許昭遠告其謀亂，悉殺而代之，然後以聞。由是，昭宗左右皆梁人矣。四月甲辰，昭宗至自西都。是時，晉王李克用、岐王李茂貞、楚王趙匡凝、蜀王[[前蜀高祖|王建]]、吳王楊行密聞梁遷昭宗洛陽，皆欲舉兵討梁，王大懼。六月，楊崇本復附于岐。王乃以兵如河中，聲言攻崇本，遣朱友恭、氏叔琮、蔣玄暉等行弒，昭宗崩。十月，王入朝京師，殺朱友恭、氏叔琮。十一月，攻淮南，取其光州，攻壽州，不克而旋。二年二月，遣蔣玄暉殺德王裕等九王于九曲池。六月，殺司空裴贄等百餘人。七月，[[唐哀帝|哀帝]]使來，賜王「迎鑾紀功碑」。
