[edit] Translation Template

I have created a new template, {{Translation}}. This template is for articles in English (or another language) that need translation into Norfuk. Articles with this template will be put into Category:Artikels f' translation. At the moment only one article is tagged, but maybe more will come along. Parenthesis 11:50, 29 November 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Protected titles

Due heavy spam, I requested and was granted temporary sysop in this project. In my time as administrator (although I am still one, it will expire soon) I deleted several empty pages and spambot pages I found, blocked User:Wili on Wilse indefinitely due move vandalism, fully protected the main page against moves, created {{tl}} and {{protected title}}, and Wikipedia:Protected titles, modeled after the English version. If an administrator needs to protect a page from creation, just include it in Wikipedia:Protected titles following the existing examples, and the cascading protection will prevent the recreation. Cheers! -- ReyBrujo 15:37, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling of City Names

Put in English, because I want to be able to consult as widely as I can.

I propose the following naming conventions for places:

  • Where a common Norfuk word exists for a place (Norfuk Ailen), it gets used.
  • If no common word exists, but one is used in an authoritative source (say, Alice Buffett's book), then it gets used (Sidni).
  • If there is no printed word used, then coin a phonetic word, preferably using the Alice Buffett orthography. Use a Norfuk pronounciation if that exists, otherwise use the Australian English pronounciation (as this is the most common dialect of English used by Norfuk speakers).
  • Languages that do not use the Latin script (Chinese, Russian, Arabic), should be Latinised to English as on the English Wikipedia, and then further Norfukised in a phonetic fashion.
  • Needless to say, we should be as consistent as we can. At present, with 46 articles, this is relatively easy, but it will become more difficult as time passes.

I also propose the following naming convention for people:

  • If the person has a Norfuk name, then use it (Flecha Kreschen, not "Fletcher Christian").
  • If no Norfuk name, then use their standard English name (John Howard, not Jaan Howird)
  • If the language does not use Latin script, then transliterate as proposed above for places.

This assumes we'll be using the "Buffett" orthography. I don't know what we will do should someone want to use another, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Comments, ideas, suggestions? Pall Mall 12:05, 24 Mieh 2007 (UTC)
